The Human Abused in Cape Town
Current developments… not only in South Africa but world-wide… remind us of the important message in German Artist Guenther Uecker’s Exhibition “The Human Abused” (Der Geschundene Mensch) in Cape Town as well as all the different locations it has been travelling to since its creation in form of 14 pacified implements for the Institute for Foreign Relations between autumn 1992 and spring 1993.
The “abuse of man by man” is a recurring subject in Uecker’s work and expresses his reaction to violence against foreigners in Germany… while reaching out in ways that help to overcome the pain and find ways for reconciliation.
